Cairo's Khan el-Khalili market has been trading since 1382, and in six centuries very little has changed. The same narrow alleyways, the same jeweller-craftsmen, the same traders in spices and aromatic oils. Bargaining here is not just permitted - it is expected. It is local etiquette, part of the culture. Quoting the full asking price is considered disrespectful to tradition.
The tour combines shopping with culture. Along the way you see Cairo's historic centre, the Mosque of Muhammad Ali on the Mokattam cliff with a panoramic view of the city, and the quarter of the coppersmiths. Your guide helps you navigate prices, advises on what to buy and where, and can negotiate on your behalf when needed. Lunch at a genuine Egyptian restaurant, no tourist markup.
Egyptian pounds in cash are best for bargaining. Bring a spacious bag for your purchases.
For all group tours, a white Toyota minibus collects guests - round-trip hotel transfer is included in the price.

I came specifically for the shopping and genuinely had no idea how comfortable it would be. We went straight to the malls and didn't waste time on unnecessary stops. What I loved was that nobody makes you walk around as a group - you can wander, browse and try things on at your own pace. The shops are enormous and the choice is huge. I bought everything I planned to and then some. The journey is long but absolutely worth it. A very productive and comfortable day.
Brilliant format, especially if you're not in the mood for a classic sightseeing tour. I nearly booked the Pyramids but went for shopping instead and have no regrets. Massive malls, all modern, air-conditioned, cafes everywhere - you could happily spend the whole day. The flexible format works really well - part of our group went to the Pyramids and then we all met up again. The journey is tiring but everything is very well organised. If you love shopping, this is a no-brainer.
I came specifically for the shopping and Cairo did not disappoint. Mall of Egypt is enormous - there is literally everything there. I came home with some fantastic things at prices far lower than back home. We also stopped at the Pyramids on the way - the views are spectacular. The guide helped us navigate the malls and pointed us in the right direction. Long journey but worth every minute if you love shopping.
Great format - we saw the Pyramids and did a proper shop all in one day. The Pyramids blew me away - I stood right next to them and still couldn't quite believe they were built 4,500 years ago. We spent about three hours in Mall of Egypt and bought loads. Everything was well organised, the coach was comfortable. If you want to combine sightseeing with shopping, this is the best option.

✈️ Message on TelegramKhan el-Khalili is the trading heart of the Middle East. Founded in 1382, it has operated much as it did centuries ago: hundreds of small shops selling everything you could imagine. Gold and silver jewellery, spices, leather goods, textiles, carpets, copperware, papyrus, aromatic oils, handmade crafts and souvenirs. Bargaining is the expected ritual here - quoting a seller the full asking price is considered an insult. You are supposed to negotiate, share a glass of tea, talk about life, and only then make your purchase.
A shopping tour to Cairo is not just a buying trip - it is a genuine cultural immersion. You will see the historic centre of Cairo, wander through the gold craftsmen's quarter, step inside specialist Egyptian perfume oil shops (authentic ones, not tourist traps), and have lunch at a real Cairo restaurant with no tourist markup. Your guide helps you navigate prices, deal with traders, and avoid overpaying.
Shopping is good all year round. The market is open daily except Fridays. The best time to visit is in the morning, before the crowds arrive.
Bring cash in Egyptian pounds for the market - it is the most effective currency for bargaining. Wear comfortable walking shoes and bring a large bag for your purchases. Bargaining is local etiquette: start low, be friendly, and enjoy the process.
Gold jewellery (18-21 carats, priced by weight), aromatic essential oils, hand-painted papyrus, leather goods, Egyptian spices, and cotton clothing.
With a guide, the risk is minimal. Gold in official shops is sold at the exchange rate with a small craftsmanship premium added on top.
